In case you missed our December 6th, 2011 episode of chasejarvisLIVE, it was all about the portfolio. We had Allegra Wilde, visual strategist and co-founder of eyeist.com on the show, talking about common mis-steps and some of the best ways for your work to get noticed. She even gave us a quick portfolio review and a sneak peek at her upcoming service eyeist.com. Yesterday Allegra and her partners launched their product for the world. Check it out here. It’s a service that will truly help photographers worldwide.
The company has assembled a team of over 50 reviewers, who are among the most respected photo experts and authorities in the field including Photo Editors, Publishers, Photographers, Advertising Agency Art Buyers, Photo Agents, Gallerists, Museum Curators and more.Registration and image uploading is free at Eyeist, and photographers can purchase their review from an a la carte menu of services including selecting a Basic Review and receiving a recorded oral critique, a Website Review, a Live Review in real-time using Eyeistʼs innovative interactive workspace, or a Photo Editing andSequencing review of their photography project. Base prices range from $100.00 to $350.00 and photographers can request a specific Eyeist Reviewer or ask to be automatically matched with a reviewer according to their needs. All of the reviews at Eyeist are completely private, but as an added public feature, there is a section of the site in which Reviewers can highlight work that has been submitted by photographers during the review process. These projects will be showcased in a specially curated “Reviewers Choice Gallery” which provides an open acknowledgement for the photographer in the eyes of the Eyeist Review Team. Allegra comments:
“Weʼve seen plenty of public forums that comment on photography, but this is the first time that experts have been given their own platform to contribute their opinion on what theyʼre seeing—and liking—all in one place.”
Great service-Great people-Great Value.
Service: I am so done with public forum’s critique of “your image is not sharp” BS. Eyeist.com gives the community what it needs…a legit portfolio review by legit professionals. Signing up and uploading your images is a breeze. Customer Service got back to me via email AND phone call within 24hours when I needed help. The platform is well designed meaning the website is easy to navigate, you and the reviewer can communicate when you are logged into your account, and your review and communications are saved and you can come back to it whenever you want. Oh and I received my review very quickly, way within the promised timeframe.
People: Just look at what the community has access to on the reviewer page…industry leaders at our fingertips. I have a hard time finding portfolio reviews in my area but Eyeist.com brings me a service to my front door. I felt my reviewer gave me advice where I needed it and how I can improve on my weaknesses. I also got the feeling that these people want to see photographers succeed to make our industry more valuable and rewarding. My favorite part of the process was the questionnaire I filled out before the review. The reviewer answered all my concerns regarding my work, my goals, where I want to go with my work, how my industry is doing, etc.
Value: I choose the Basic Review just to give it a try. The more you state what you want out of your review the more you might get. I got a lot out of my review for the price of going out to dinner and drinks on a saturday night. And I don’t have to fly out of town with my book and iPad, it is all right there. Knowing I would have the right people looking at my work was all the reason for me to give eyeist.com a try. I have more confidence in my work and my portfolio is stronger than before.
Hi All…
I apologize. We had to do a bit of maintenance on the site last night. Working now… and won’t happen again…

Why is it not working?
Hmm I get “No instance available”. I also watched this last you and it looked like a great concept – hope it gets fixed soon!
oops that should be “last year”
I remember watching this last year. Thanks for the heads up it’s live now. I thought they had a really great idea.
