Alrighty. Regardless of the fact that this A or B series (here, here, and here) has been really interesting for us, helpful, and popular with you (the last such post received over 1000 comments in 24 hours)…
This time it is of even greater interest for us. You see, we’re doing some image editing around here and we’ve stumbled into a little internal debate about which one of these two images is actually better, A or B. [You might remember these shots from the Nikon D7000 campaign…]
Hearing from you will help really help us. No qualifiers, don’t worry about our objectives, or the “assignment”. We want to know which one of these shots you like better. And please tell us in the comments below, not via twitter. Raw preference. Period. If you can add some “why”, that would be nice too. Full 600 pixel wide images after the jump. Hit ‘continue reading’ below [and btw, I’ve got a $1 gentlemen’s bet riding with Erik about which one will win, so don’t let me down!]…
After you all weigh in, I’ll tell you which one I like, which one I thought you’d like, and why.

So which photo is better? A or B?

I definitely like B better. There’s clear intent in the girl with her apparent motion, which creates a story and some intrigue as to her motives. Instead A looks staged; especially with the sun in the foreground and that unnatural juxtaposed light with opposing shadow and all. Plus, with her face is partly cut in half by the shadows and that stance, I’m reminded of cliche 80s advertising. I have to say though (and please take this with a grain of salt as I am an amateur and a D7000 owner—in part due Benevolent Mischief), I think both images have exposure problems.
A
B, there are 2 subjects: a beautiful girl & guys that are staring on the sun
B.
Both photos look good. But I don’t get A. Why is the model almost ritght smack in the middle of the frame? Why is she in the spotlight? I also don’t like that half her face is in shadows. Also her feet is partially cut-off.
B just looks right in everyway.
Chase, I pick image A. I believe the eyes are organs of asking. When I look over this image it asks so much Reason for men and van, power turbins, houses on right? poor composition&lighting etc. Best Regards Walt Rowand.
