You’ve followed your curiosities, found your direction, and made some strides along the path, now what?
Chances are there’s something deep inside of you, that calls to you, that you know you are resisting. What is that thing? How can you construct your life around that thing? Pull on that thread. Zero in and focus ruthlessly.
The more you can narrow your focus, the faster you’ll learn, and the more effective you’ll become. Define your path and eliminate distractions that stand in the way. What does that look like?
For me, it was the decision to drop out of graduate school, and double down on his photography career. Once I made that decision, and relentlessly focused on my craft, I went from having a few local clients, to working with major sports brands, athletes, and celebrities all around the world.
Nothing happens on its own. You must put things in motion, and intentionally focus your time and energy around developing skills. If you fail to narrow your focus, you run the risk of having your attention and energy pulled in many different directions, ultimately hindering advancement in any single domain.
This concept transcends career. The goal is to be able to zero in and focus on the things that really matter to you – this could be relationships, family, hobbies, travel, fitness, etc. – anything that gives you more life, more purpose, or more happiness.
If you are still unsure of how you should be spending your time, then experiment! Move toward your curiosities and see where that leads. It’s never too late to start, or start again for that matter. Focus your life as if it is your portfolio. Pick your winners and focus on those winners with all your energy.
This episode is a little reminder. It’s a message I’m telling myself and I hope it resonates with you too.
