Welcome back to a series of posts I’m calling Emerging Talent – where I’m spotlighting the work of photographers and filmmakers on the rise. Some are shooters that me and my spies will uncover from 500px or Flickr – others might already be shooting campaigns, but in both cases I don’t care about what the “industry” says. This is simply work I like. I... read more ›

Why do artists loathe business? Why does business fear art? Each side holding the other back for no good reason. Conventional thinking declares that real art is “pure” and free of commercial motivations - that business corrupts art. Conversely, business minds often seem to fear art because it’s perceived lack of a road map for mathematical “ROI.” Total bs. The next time someone suggests that business has no... read more ›

Do you talk politics at your table? Left or right, red or blue, conservative or progressive - it is that time again. The Presidential election is upon us. For the next five months, leading up to November 6, 2012, political imagery will capture the attention of America and beyond. The photography will be ubiquitous. And the films, ads, and speeches, will flood our airwaves, tvs and tablets. The pundits will express their impassioned points of... read more ›

Posters and billboards began popping up in major American cities last week proclaiming that "Hipsters Deserve to Die." Sort of shocking to say the least. Also named as "deserving to die" are: the tattooed, cat lovers, the genetically privileged, crazy old aunts and various other niche groups. Each poster uses a photo portrait to demonstrate the labeled persona. Click through the tabs above to see the work. This has been upsetting some people in cities... read more ›

There are currently three major fires burning at once. The High Park, Waldo Canyon and Flagstaff fires have consumed, by some estimates, over 100,000 acres and close to 600 homes. Devastating. The photography coming out of Colorado is powerful.... read more ›

On Tuesday my post on backing up your digital data elicited hundreds of responses online. Many of you had a good quip on a time-tested methodology on how to back up your most treasured memories: print them. What a concept - the photo as an object. As our culture ebbs and, largely FLOWS to just some bits and bytes on a hardrive or server somewhere, an actual physical... read more ›

I’ve said it before, but it would be remiss not to mention it again: Back up your data. Sad reminder of this again when I saw a recent story on PetaPixel about a guy who is taking Apple to court over lost baby photos, saying the failure of a storage device caused him to lose priceless memories. Perminder Tung used an Apple Time Capsule... read more ›

http://youtu.be/6JI0wUyH7q4 I love what GoPro is making possible. These are things I've been asking for from a lot of manufacturers for years. I'm excited someone is listening.
