Make a Declaration of Creativity

I just received a very inspiring email. I thought it was worth sharing. I’ve changed or left out some of the personal details to protect the privacy of the sender. “Hey Chase, It worked. Everything you said worked. I declared myself a photographer, got business cards, set up an LLC, pumped out shots and handed them out like mad. I DECIDED this is who I am, and it's like the whole world conspired in my favor.... read more ›

Inspiring New York City Time Lapse: The Manhattan Project

I'm headed back to New York city this week. The city has a unique way of pushing photographers and filmmakers to be more creative. The constant pulse of visual inspiration is motivational. My own work has been given the occasional Big Apple boost - in fact, it was just one year ago that I wrapped up my Dasein: An Invitation to Hang installation at the Ace Hotel. The mini-doc and some of my conclusions on... read more ›

Snapshots from Brazil

Here are some behind-the-scenes snapshots of my time here in Brazil with Mike Horn. Although we are almost done here, our collaboration with Mike and the Pangaea is just beginning. Much much more to come. Pay attention for our next trip to South Africa in a few weeks. Click through some of the above photos to see what we’ve been up to.

Notes from Brazil: Hanging 60 feet off the deck

When you’re hanging off the mast of a sailboat 60 feet above the Atlantic Ocean, there is a tendency to ask the question, “Am I supposed to be here?” But it’s good to be asking that question of yourself, wherever you might be. I know that here onboard the Pangaea, with my friend Mike Horn and his crew,... read more ›

Breaking News: Facebook Launches Photo App

Facebook Photo App on Chase Jarvis Blog
Facebook dropped a photo app today that will definitely turn a few heads. The app is chock-full of the features iPhone photographers want: You can crop, rotate and add filters to any picture in your camera roll in app. If your Facebook use is all about photos this app could replace the regular Facebook app. It offers a “news feed” that exclusively shows pictures as its home page. Screen shots below. What do you guys... read more ›

Modular Cameras Continue to Revolutionize The Industry

Camera "concepts" are a dime a dozen. BUT...I always love it when smart designers take an idea we take for granted--like that consumer/pro-sumer camera made up of a singular body with various other moving parts--and totally shreds it. This is the case with numerous new/emerging manufactures at the moment...RED, GoPro, and even iPhone all fall into this category. I happen to love them all. There's... read more ›

Software To Replace Photographers [The Ones That Deserve It]

photo mark_Petapixel_a1_mini on chase jarvis blog
Photographer Mark Meyers just wrote up a nice enough story aimed at driving awareness fear in professional photographers ... fear about the future of their career, their well-being, their jobs.   Depicted in that article this image at left, which was completely generated by the author of the post using an emerging 3d modeling software called Blender. The quote that stands out from the article is this one: "If you are a photographer that makes... read more ›

Beginner or emerging photographer? Well, once you know what’s happening with your camera and all those dials, it’s time to take on lighting and flash photography. Daily Awesome: Digital Camera Made of Cardboard

IKEA may seem like nothing more than a necessary evil for those who don't wanna drop a full paycheck on a single piece of furniture (and hey, their pre-fab systems and some in-store displays are actually quite innovative...), but this here is some next level shiz: an eco-friendly, cardboard-bodied digital camera. Shoots/stores up to 40 images, uses AA batteries (which, if you can find them hiding in... read more ›
