Some Experimental Work: Celebrity, Maps, and Sensor Bloom

I thought I'd share some experimental work I shot recently that was inspired loosely by the notion of celebrity, the video Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (directed by the very talented Patrick Daughters), and sensor bloom as art.For the right brainers amongst us, consider this stuff on the merits of the peculiar, cold, distanced aesthetic united with the white-hot lights. For the left brainers, consider what's happening with the camera sensor (blooming) to achieve... read more ›

Surreal Dubai And A Hefty Buzz

No 3D modeling, no tilt and shift, no tricks that I can detect. Crazy part about this photo is that those skyscrapers sticking out of the clouds are huge, towering 70+ stories tall each. Even crazier is that this image (not mine) is shot, not from a plane or chopper, but from another building! This image is shot from the world's tallest building which happens to be just down the road from where I'm currently... read more ›

RWAV_5 REVEALED: San Diego (Sunset Cliffs)

I especially loved the guesses for the most recent Chase Jarvis: ROOM WITH(OUT) A VIEW. There were guesses from something like five different continents - love it. If you knew what to look for (you didn't), there were certainly a couple of hints (west coast, the parked cars - know it's not UK or Aussie, etc) but there were also some red herrings trying to place me overseas (1 am in the camera metadata). Anyways,... read more ›

Chase Jarvis: ROOM WITH(OUT) A VIEW_5

Okay. Here's another stumper of an RWAV for you uber-detectives out there. You know the game. I bet I've got you on this one. Here's a hint: west coast.Don't forget to include your url if you think you're onto me, and I'll send some shout outs to whomever can drop the pin closest to me - maybe even the top few. Probably have a pretty quick turn around on this one, since I've got a lot... read more ›

Saving Dough on Photography Gear

Q: (via email) Chase. I'm basically in love with Profoto lighting. But I'm a kid that has bad credit and photo is my life. Any suggestions on how I could get some Profoto lighting?A: Yep. Rent it. Seriously. This goes for almost all killer, pro gear. And here's the thought of the day: Most rental houses are closed on Sunday. Also true is that you can normally pick up stuff at your local shop at... read more ›

RWAV_4 REVEALED: Mazama, Washington (Freestone Inn)

Some guesses were getting close-ish, but it seems that I finally stumped you guys on an RWAV. It’s perfect actually. I was starting to think for a while that some of you had a some tracking device planted on me from a scene outta the 80's dive Tango & Cash.A far cry from the likes of Paris, NYC, and SoCal, this time the crew and I were nestled at a lodge in the middle of... read more ›

Chase Jarvis: ROOM WITH(OUT) A VIEW_4

Okay. This goes out to all those readers who have blown me outta the water at previous RWAV's. You know the rules. And for any of you who were starting to think that I only stay at hipster joints in Paris, NYC and Palm Springs, guess again. Here's some proof that there really is a huge range. This time, for example, I'm in the woods (where I probably belong). Good luck.--...if you're not familiar with... read more ›

Chase Jarvis FRAMES: Studio Buildout

I wanted to share a short video today that's a little more private than my normal ones. It's certainly behind-the-scenes, but it's not meant to reveal anything special about photography. In a way, it's just a fun little 4000-picture journey--done in the Chase Jarvis: FRAMES style--documenting some of our time during the last few months of 2007. HUGE thanks to everyone who played a role in pulling this project together - you know who... read more ›

Golden Ticket(s) to ASMP Strictly Business 2 – Chicago

Big thanks to everyone who weighed in on my offer for a free trip to ASMP's Strictly Business 2 conference in Chicago. 500 comments in just a handful of days. The overwhelming support you've shown for this post has, in turn, encouraged me to up the ante: I've decided to send TWO winners to Chicago instead of just one AND offer two other tuition-only scholarships if some runner ups can take care of their own... read more ›

The show's logo is displayed on the left side, with "THE CHASE JARVIS LIVE" in bold black text inside yellow rectangles, stacked vertically. The right side of the image features a robotic figure, resembling a humanoid robot, meticulously working on a canvas. The robot is painting or drawing a grayscale portrait of a human-like figure. The robot's detailed mechanical components are visible, and the scene evokes themes of artificial intelligence, creativity, and technology. The background is minimal, allowing focus on the robot and its artwork. The composition suggests an exploration of AI's role in creative processes. Is AI the End of Creativity or Just the Beginning?
