Instead, teach yourself, take workshops, get mentors, read books, build your support network, work for other... read more ›

Artist + Photographer Ai WeiWei Released from Chinese Prison

After months of detention in a Beijing prison the Chinese government today released famed Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei on bail. Ai, arguably China's most well known artist, was taken into custody in April amid a crackdown on dissidents and activists across China. Sure there's plenty of good things to honor about the past of our photography industry. A lot of the trails have been intelligently blazed by those before us, a lot of ditches have been dug. But...ahem...generally speaking status quo in photography doesn't know which... read more ›

Open Discussion: Why Go Retro?

Hey all, Erik here with a quick guest post about a subject that’s raised a lively debate in our studio. Everyone on our crew has long been shooting with Polaroids, rangefinders, micro 4/3 cameras adapted to accept vintage lenses...even processing digital images to look like they came out of an old dusty camera. Surveying the landscape, it’s clear this tide has been rising for a while now and we’re not the only ones attached to... read more ›
