Creativity is an Amplifier

Creativity is an intangible, yet essential part of our lives. It’s a trait that can take us down unexplored paths, to make something out of nothing, and ultimately bring life to an idea or concept. As creative professionals, it’s not only our job but also our passion to constantly seek out new and innovative ways of creating something meaningful.

I recently sat down with Zack Arnold of the Optimize Yourself Podcast to talk about what it means to be a creator and how it can enhance life beyond traditional bounds.

Discovering Your Creative Calling

A select few in our society are born feeling different from the outset. They’re shown the conventional path of life and unsatisfied, instead yearning for something else. This feeling of difference – that you were meant to do something different, go somewhere other than the path that has been laid out for you – is a sign of your creative calling. It’s an indication that there is perhaps another way of living and working that is both fulfilling and rewarding.

Of course, fully realizing one’s creative calling is far from easy. Everyone’s journey is different. But what me and my friend Zack agree on is that the first step is always the same – beginning the pursuit. Creativity is like a muscle in that the more it’s used, the stronger it becomes. You may feel that an alternative path in the field is right for you, but ultimately won’t find out without trying. It’s a matter of trusting your intuition and being willing to explore uncharted territories.

Creativity is Foundational to Health

Humans were made to make. Ingenuity is simply part of our DNA, and it’s what has set us apart from other species since the beginning of modern time. So it’s no wonder that being creative feels so good. Anyone in the profession will tell you that they got into it for the same reason – passion. Money and recognition is great and all, but the intrinsic rewards of artisanship are even better.

Studies have shown that the act of creating can reduce stress, increase self-esteem, improve focus and concentration, and even lead to better sleep. Burnout? That seems to be a thing of the past when you’re doing something that you love.

Surround Yourself With People That Inspire You

It’s said that you are who you surround yourself with. If that is the case, then it stands to reason that being around people who bring out your creative best will have lasting benefits. Find a community of like minded individuals who are excited to explore uncharted territories and push the boundaries of what is possible. Learn from one another, share ideas, offer constructive criticism – all with the goal of helping each other become better creators.

The main message Zack and I can take away from this conversation is simple – don’t let conformity lead the way. Everyone does that. Living a life that you truly love and feel fulfilled by starts with creativity.

Shoutout to Zack for having me on the show. If you liked this episode, please go check his podcast over at OptimizeYourself.me.
