First we kicked off chasejarvisLIVE, then creativeLIVE… so you figured out I really dig this LIVE thing. Well, today, I’m excited to share that I’ve also been working hard with a little coffee company down the street called Starbucks to help bring you StarbucksLIVE. To kick this off, I’m TODAY at 12 noon PDT (3pm NYC time) doing a LIVE photo/video shoot with multi-platinum, Grammy award-winning musician, Sarah McLachlan. Sarah will be performing live from a little nook inside the Starbucks headquarters here in Seattle, and we’ll have a few cameras and a few mics pointed at her.
WHAT YOU’LL SEE: In our typical style, the setting should be pretty relaxed. We’ve set up a baby grand piano, some basic lights and cameras and we’re going to make some great video images while Sarah plays from her new album, Laws of Illusion. Besides Sarah’s beautiful performance, the other thing you’ll see is me and my crew actually working. How bout that. This is the real deal. If you tune in a little early you’ll get to see us …putting the finishing touches on our gear and set up for a couple hours prior to Sarah’s live performance. I won’t be rapping with the camera much, as I’ll have my hands full, but I think the show should be a fun one.
Use the comment section below to ask any questions you’d like answered about what we’re doing, how we’re doing it, gear, anything, you name it, I’ll try to answer it. And btw, Starbucks just announced this to their 8.1 million Facebook fans–and this ain’t broadcast TV, it’s the internet, so get there early if you can. You can ask questions of Sarah and make requests on the Starbucks Twitter handle using hashtag #starbuckslive.

Nice video.
Too bad the audio was really bad. Levels not properly set, left channel dropping out for the greater part of time. Sounded like someone didn’t push the plug on the mic all the way in. Shouldn’t the sound have been checked during the set-up instead of waiting until the last min.
Chase, thanks for sharing this. I really enjoyed it…yeah, tears and a runny nose. Sarah is incredible.
There were some sound issues, and my connection speed was also a problem…need to find a T1 to hook into…I think.
Overall, the broadcast was fabulous, given the fact that she was not at
100% herself. She played and sang from her heart…a true artist.

Chase, you (and your team), are non-stop! CreativeLive is a great concept, and fun to see in action, but is even cooler now that you’re spinning it out into something that local coffee company of ours picks up. Nice work on the partnership.
tim, your work is great!!!! love it. you and darren are my favorite. darren so clean and precise and you so inteligent, deep and motivated… thumbs up!
Did Starbucks kick anybody for taking pictures?
I meant, did Starbucks kick anybody OUT for taking pictures?
Fun video to watch, but I think a lot of us were a little confused about what we’d be seeing — expecting more “behind-the-scenes” and setup information. I know you mentioned you wouldn’t have a lot of “face-time” with the cameras yourself, but it would have been nice to have given some setup information, walked around the space to discuss what was going to be shot, etc.? It wasn’t clear from the live video — were you running a video camera yourself and/or did you shoot any stills during the performance? Was there a formal photoshoot with Sarah afterward?
Also, I’ll echo (har har) the comments on audio — definitely had some issues there — and we all completely missed out on the “pre-shoot” discussion between youself and Sarah! I’m not sure if that was muted intentionally or not, but that segment alone would most likely have been the most interesting to all of us!
