Observing a Meth Lab & the Chemist: Breaking Bad POV – Part III [perspective]

If you like my earlier post on Quentin Tarantino’s FROM BELOW perspective and Wes Anderson’s well-known perspective of FROM ABOVE– check out another one of our favorite examples of perspective here in the studio: the work behind the series Breaking Bad. We all love this show. The camera work and directing is nothing short of brilliant – and these POV shots demonstrate myriad ways a director can introduce a setting, scene or sentiment.

I’ll be featuring more of these pieces today. Stay tuned.

Breaking Bad has some of the best cinematography. Period. The scene in the show last night in the beginning with the outstretched desert with Walt, Jessie, and Mike in that triangle was thoughtful. The last scene with Mike and Walt was haunting. Panning out with the beautiful light and Mike falling into the grass quietly was a scene to make you think.

Almost all of these are not POV shots. They may be interesting but they are clearly not Point of View shots. Not to mention this season’s lighting is far too contrasty. Too much

    Here’s a good one on Kubrick’s one-point perspective. http://vimeo.com/48425421
