Seems that a new guerrilla campaign by Olympus in Australia is talking shit about the “rubbish” photos from your camera phone.
“If you’re camera also sends text messages, that will explain why your photos are rubbish.”
Plaques in select Aussie cities bearing the above slogan have been pasted to the street and other urban environs, with the url GetARealCamera.com linking to Olympus. Personally, the message bugs me, but it’s pretty damn clever — made me look twice and type in the url. …
[thx @MarkMImage for the tip & sending in that image!]

Awwww, snap! Olympus needs to look at iPhone usage on Flickr.
They did, that’s why they thought up this campaign. FAIL.
But what the hell is Olympus ?
If Olympus doesn’t know what’s the most important in photography is not the camera.. shouldn’t they better to make cell-phone instead.. ?
Cameras on phones are good for taking that everyday photos that anyone can take… shoot with what you have at that right moment. Now take that camera phone and take photos at a concert, nightlife scenes, architectural (needing real tilt-shift), or anything you want to print an 11×14 and larger and hang on your walls… they will all be crap and as a pro-photographer, I would lose clients. Now Olympus??? I bought a point-and-shoot for a cheap 30ft deep underwater camera (housing for DSLR are expensive for something I was shooting just for fun)… and never use it except then because of the xD cards and horrible battery charging system.
Olympus exists predominately in the small sensor realm, which is being threatened by iPhoneography. Point and Shoots are at an evolve or go extinct juncture. Unfortunately with some of the iPhone apps appearing, it’s true that some really bad images are showing up on instagram and Flickr. But as Chase and other’s have proven, the iPhone is capable of taking some amazing images in the right hands.
