Fresh Documentary Film Resource

I'm a huge fan of documentary films. Sometimes I like really weird obscure ones, but I'm also greatly satisfied by commercially successful (relatively speaking) and well done documentaries like Fast, Cheap and Out of Control, Scratch, and Winged Migration to name a few.Anyway, if you dig documentaries, you might want to check out this great link for 100 favorite documentaries I nabbed from BoingBoing and buy Kevin Kelly's PDF book featured therein.

Apple Is Toast!

News from 1995: Apple is going to be lucky to make it to the end of the year. Lot's of web traffic today on NY Times columnist David Pogue's brilliant and hilarious reminder here that know-it-all's are regularly known to be very wrong. Congrats to Apple for, well, giving them the finger. And all of us, take a lesson: critics are often angry, tired, cynical people living in dark apartments. Don't pay them the attention.

New and Old ‘Business of Photography’ Books You Should Read

Current Managing Director and lead legal counsel for the ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers - www.asmp.org), Victor Perlman, and former (retired) Executive Director of the ASMP, Richard Weisgrau, have recently co-authored an interesting book called Licensing Photography. Question to Chase: What are you blogging?

So the blog's not been live for long, but I've already fielded the following email from someone out there named Elijah: "Cool blog idea Chase! What are you planning to write about?" Well, I suppose the brief answer to this question is one that should be posted somewhere herein so that friends, subscribers, etc can get a sense of what sort of discussions will ensue (although I must confess I'm caught in the debacle of... read more ›

Apple and ASMP “Celebration of Photography” Series

Good news to report: Apple and The ASMP have teamed up to produce a professional photography speaking series that puts a handful of leading professional photographers and a smattering of their work in front of a lot of people at Apple flagship stores in NYC, San Francisco, and Chicago. The events are free and should be worthwhile to attend if you're at all interested in photography. Track down your favorite photography legends, like Jay Maisel... read more ›

Ask Chase — FAQs

I get asked these basic questions A LOT, so it makes good sense to post some FAQs here.Q: What brand of camera do you shoot? A: I shoot Nikon and Hasselblad. I primarily shoot top of the line digital equipment. I use Nikon’s Flagship D2x system, and shoot medium format digital with the new Hasselblad H2D. For the occasions where film is preferred, I shoot the Nikon F5 and Hasselblad’s H1 and 503 cameras.Q: Do... read more ›

New ChaseJarvis.com. Numerous thanks.

Finally! We've been so damn busy bolting from one shoot to another that we've had a tough time getting our new site live. But alas, with a hard push in the past two weeks, we've been able to launch a refreshed www.chasejarvis.com As you might imagine, it hasn't come without significant efforts from our internal staff--especially Kate, Scott, and Julian (whose bios you should check out on the staff page of the new site)--but also... read more ›
