Talent is Everywhere: Photography Poetry

This work deserves a more in depth sharing at a later date, but in short I’ve done some recent work with the(RED) project around new ways to document, cultivate and otherwise further explore the intersection of music with film & photography. Things beyond the music video, honestly. Real integration, raw integration that sprouts up organically or from small, simple roots. The particular work I was doing on the day we shot the above was literally in the streets. Emotionally charged. Moving. Powerful. Some solid photos came out (click around here for a couple – more later), but what I was most excited about was that this work led me to meet the above man, and record the above piece live. He wished simply to be called “Corey”. The piece is Photography Poetry .

Talent is everywhere.

[If you don’t know about (RED), the beneficiary for the work is the Global Fund aimed at fighting AIDS in Africa. Me thinks you’ve seen other (RED) work from brands like Apple, Nike, Converse, & Starbucks. Learn more about (RED) here.]

Pure raw talent is everywhere. Massive audiences looking for it are everywhere. The internet is connecting them more rapidly every day…

Yet millions are still waiting for someone to hand them a microphone and open the curtain to the world stage, waiting to get their “shot” (self included). It happens now and then, and we can all appreciate it when it does, but true greatness will always be reserved for those who have the vision, and the persistence, to forge their own dreams and build their own platforms from the ground up. They are not hard to find, They are the ones handing out the mics. The inspiration I get from videos like these is the motivation to press forward with that plan. Way to go Chase, and thanks for the platform!

Ok, enough from me. Who gets the mic next?

very premature in terms of production and content, may appeal to the creative wannabes but it lacks depth in many ways.

@Gu. huh? i don’t get your critical response at all. we’re talking about a vid grab of a talented homeless rap artist. and you’re critiquing the production? the content? there’s no claim anywhere here about either of those. this is more journalism and a social point about creativity and talent being found in unlikely places.

      music videos are on mtvU.

I have to say, that from my pov, this short was not good neither inspirational. And I’m not trying to be disrespectful to “Corey”, but not everything that Chase touches, is converted to something cool.

I’m not a hater. I follow Chase and really love most of his work, but this is not one of them. And seen that this post has got only 17 comments, I think I’m not the only one thinking the same thing.

    Peace.
