What To Do With What You’ve Got

There are so many challenges to living our dreams: not enough money, not enough time, not enough knowledge, etc…. But the truth is, those are all one kind of problem…a lack of RESOURCES. And if you’re putting off living your own dream because of a lack of resources, then I’ve got news for you. NOBODY has all the resources they need. In fact, the very nature of big dreams is striving for something that’s not yet within our reach…it’s ALL ABOUT A LACK OF RESOURCES. So what can we do with what we’ve got to get there? It’s simple: you need to be more RESOURCEFUL. There’s a big difference. Check this out….

What you’ve got

First and foremost, embrace your limitations and lean into them. You will be at your best at your toughest time. It’s when our back is against the wall and we don’t have a lot of options that we MUST focus, think creatively, and breakthrough with new ideas. If you don’t have the camera you need, or the money to go there, or the a small window after the kids go to bed … how can you work within those creative constraints. I guarantee you there’s something you can do and there are solutions nearby if you look for them. THAT’S resourcefulness. And nothing – and I mean nothing of merit – happens without being resourceful.

The answers are within

Dreams evolve and change. There’s a voice inside of each of us pulling us toward the thing that makes us feel alive. The thing that feeds your soul today, may not feed it tomorrow, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is today. New challenges will arise. You will know this from your intuition, and if you can learn to listen to it, it’s a powerful tool that can keep you fueled against adversity. There is nothing more powerful in this world than listening to your intuition (some of the world’s best examples of this are here).

Practice creative craft daily

Creativity begets creativity. The science is clear. The experiences of every high achiever I’ve ever interviewed / ran with / befriended matches this POV. The things that feel like big barriers fall away when your creativity is on high. Creative solutions are more available to you when you’re in touch with your own, instinctive creativity. You can more easily see these solutions by focusing on what you can do every day. The daily habit of actively making, creating, doing, building rewires your brain to find and see solutions you might not have seen before. It will not only help you your career, it will help your life. I promise
