\\\\\ UPDATE the mystery bike match game has been solved. Deb got them all right on this comment. ///// Howdy y’all, Dartanyon here. We normally don't post much on the weekend, but I wanted to take a moment for an off-topic Sunday morning Public Service Announcement. May is bike to work [and school] month. Around the studio we're environmentally conscious, and have turned BTWM into sorta a big deal. We join in on the ride... read more ›

Friends. Just wanted to say a huge thanks for tuning into chasejarvisLIVE on Wednesday for our broadcast with We Are Augustines. Those guys showed us the love by opening up their backstory, their creative process, and a truly inspired performance. And you showed the love right back in spades. When I told the band that 30,000 of you tuned into the show on Wednesday--that they were performing to a virtual stadium full of people--they were... read more ›

[note: this is behind the scenes - the finished vid is below...] Ever since I was a kid I've envisioned shooting videos the old way...the "practical" way where the moves and gimmicks, the set changes and the moving walls happen in camera, in real time, and real space, as opposed to the numerous luxuries we have nowadays in post production. In short, the opportunity to live out that vision from when I was a kid... read more ›

A couple weeks ago, I made a call out to y'all: "Show me yours, and I'll show you mine". I was kissing winter goodbye and --as we patted on the ass on the way out the door--I wanted to see any winter photos you were interested in sharing. Well I finally made it through the couple thousand or more that came in. And whoa. Some great stuff - thanks so much for sharing the inspiration.... read more ›

WHO you are matters less now than ever before. Pedigrees no longer matter. You can go from nobody to famous, or rich, or happy, or successful without anyone else's permission. WHAT you are matters less now than ever before. Movie stars and wine experts, academics and ultimate wrestlers are all on the same playing field. WHERE you are matters less now than ever before. You can be sharing photos from your basement apartment in Brooklyn,... read more ›

It's Monday. Let's shake out the cobwebs from the weekend. Finish this sentence with your own words, from your own point of view about your own work: My pictures would be better if _______________. [feel free to substitute 'pictures' with 'art', 'writing', 'painting', whatever you like. BTW, my answer is first in the comments...]

Whether your pictures look like you want them to or not. Whether you're getting hired or not. Whether you're in a creative boom or a bust, everything is going to be alright. Happy Friday. Here's a ticket to a great weekend.

I'm a huge fan of the work of a friend of mine, photographer Chris Jordan. His work is both subtle and bold, timely and timeless. Among other things, it beautifully (albeit tragically) explores human consumerism/consumption and the resulting detriments to the planet. From his work, we get a sense of freedom to grieve this predicament, but also a motivation toward change and inspired cause-based activism. The above video is a short chronicle of Chris' midway... read more ›

You read the title and thought I was talking smack. But in fact, I'm trying to give advice. The history of the world is one of shared spaces, shared food, shared water, shared DNA, shared lives. The history of art is the same. It is a history of an evolution of ideas, of appropriation and application. Therefore, if you're looking for inspiration, look no further than 1. inside you; and then 2. to other art... read more ›
