Solving the Freelancers Dilemma…

Problem: the freelance life can be amazing, but there are lots of overlooked pitfalls when you’re working for yourself. In particular I’m interested in one problem that none of my freelance friends–nor anyone on the internet quite frankly– is talking about…and that’s movement and physical well being.

In a recent #cjRAW, I addressed this head on and we talked about 3 ways to move your body throughout the day (it focused on standup desks, walking meetings, and engaging a healthy daily routine…) BUT a handful of you called me out on one thing… that sitting IS STILL A REALITY. And I see your point. Let’s face it, as photographers, designers, freelancers, artists, a lot of time is spent at our desks…and yes we can stand at those desks if we arrange our workspace to do so…but then there’s also the traveling, flying, road trips, photoshop grinding, etc etc. It IS a necessary evil in many things we do. So what do we do then?

Well, I called my friend in to help us fix/solve this nasty reality…

SOLUTION: My friend Dr. Kelly Starrett (coach, Physical Therapist, and best selling author of Deskbound, Supple Leopard, and Ready to Run). He joins me in this episode of #cjRAW to talk about 3 ways to address this Freelancer’s Dilemma… a) how to sit b) how to perform preventative maintenance/muscle restoration and c) a little secret to hydration (to keep from getting that stiffness which sometimes happens after prolonging sitting, hunching over, doing the stuff in our trade that we gotta do to earn our keep.

These tips are pure gold. Enjoy / keep moving / stay healthy.
