Whenever I give a talk or host a show, I’ve heard from this community time and again that one of the most valuable things is the Q&A wrap up. Straight up. You asking questions and me doing my best to answer them. And not just the “how’d you get started in photography” questions…. we’re talking the hard questions, landing clients, hiring staff, working with challenging clients, legal questions, gear questions, portfolio questions, whatever you can muster…
As such, we’re dedicating and entire 90 minute chasejarvisLIVE show to this topic this Wednesday. We will take some questions LIVE via the #cjlive or #AskChase hashtag on Twitter (follow @chasejarvis here) during the broadcast, however, so that we can be organized and get through as many questions as possible, please frame your questions below in the comments. I’m a 16 year old photographer starting off his business who is absolutely in love with his work. I was just wondering what advice you would have for someone starting off there business.

I’ve been plugging away for almost 2 years just trying to get noticed. It seems to be working but all of the big clients that contact me want me to shoot for free and they will promote me. I want the experience and exposure but I also want to go full time with this. I have done some and they always end up getting me a handful of smaller paying jobs. At what point do I start turning these down? If my work wasn’t that great or getting out there they wouldn’t have found me in the first place right?

Yes, I’ve been at it for a long time, really working on style, concept, and image of my business. But I’m not sure how to really market myself, get in front of clients, find the jobs to bid on. Please talk a little on finding jobs and getting hired.
