Ok, so this came to my inbox 100% outta left field. But I love it. We've never met in person, but it seems that multi-platinum, grammy-award-winning, big-butt-loving Sir Mix-A-Lot just called me out. Alrighty, Sir Mix, you want back in the door? You got it. Here's how: you come to my studio in Seattle and be my guest on chasejarvisLIVE on Wednesday July 6th at 10am. Lord knows that our live, worldwide audience... read more ›

After months of detention in a Beijing prison the Chinese government today released famed Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei on bail. Ai, arguably China's most well known artist, was taken into custody in April amid a crackdown on dissidents and activists across China. This is breaking news for the art world but it's also great news to my ears personally. I've been moved by his work and intelligent dissent for quite some time, and became... read more ›

As a matter of opinion, it's time to get some cojones. Or whatever clever slang you've cooked up for the female equivalent, or whatever will help you understand the following point. Sure there's plenty of good things to honor about the past of our photography industry. A lot of the trails have been intelligently blazed by those before us, a lot of ditches have been dug. But...ahem...generally speaking status quo in photography doesn't know which... read more ›

Whew. Just a quick note to update you on the Dasein: Invitation To Hang installation and project. In short, it's still going gangbusters. Round here we celebrate photographs. While they sometimes tell stories of love and laughter, they also sometimes tell stories of sadness, horror, or otherwise unsavory-ness. These mugshots of some of the most famous rock stars the world has ever known fall somewhere in between. Check out the confluence of stoicism, ego, and genius in this shot of Frank Sinatra (other greats from Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Sid Vicious, David Bowie, Axl Rose and a dozen... read more ›

I'm never one to drop a heavy post on you headed into the weekend. So this one is light. So light in fact that it floats in the air like your morning toast and coffee and orange juice you're about to eat. You may have caught this a couple weeks ago, but I was too buried to share it. So here 'tis. Consider this while you're grabbing brunch over the next two days. The above... read more ›

Looking at more than 1000 images a day is a real treat. And pulling out 100 to 200 each day for printing is even cooler. It's sort of like dipping my hand in a river at any one time, and being able to pull out a slice of life. Here's four of the 150 I pulled out today. Props to their respective creators, listed below. A broad spectrum - but that's what I love. Lemme... read more ›

I don't talk about gear all that much, but this one goes out to you camera geeks and gearheads. So many of you have been asking about the array of cameras I'm shooting while living in NYC (and somewhat in line with yesterday's post) we decided to whip up a quick Chase Jarvis TECH video to run you through them. Ten formats in all, from top of the line Nikons, to old Polaroids, even some... read more ›

Hey all, Erik here with a quick guest post about a subject that’s raised a lively debate in our studio. Everyone on our crew has long been shooting with Polaroids, rangefinders, micro 4/3 cameras adapted to accept vintage lenses...even processing digital images to look like they came out of an old dusty camera. Surveying the landscape, it’s clear this tide has been rising for a while now and we’re not the only ones attached to... read more ›
