What would it feel like to put your creative ambition out into the world? To share your work with others?
Creative expression is a fundamental piece of human health. The more you create, the closer you feel to the truest version of yourself. Tapping into your own unique creative mojo feels good, and it’s life sustaining. But it doesn’t stop when you finish the work.
Putting your work out into the world is part of the creative cycle. It maximizes the creative experience and provides a container for you to hone your craft, cultivate connections, and ultimately get better at what you love.
As I outline in my book, Creative Calling, there are 4 steps to creativity; Imagine, Design, Execute, and Amplify. This final step can only happen if you are willing to put yourself out there and share your work. There are plenty of projects that you can work on only for yourself; let me be clear that creative expression that remains private is not a bad thing.
However, with certain passion projects, you inevitably fall in love with the work along the journey, and reach a point where you want to find an audience for it. Your passion for the work itself naturally evolves into finding a purpose for that work. That impact on others is one of the most sacred outcomes that a piece of creative work can have.
When you share your work, you begin to understand your own work on a deeper level. It provides access to a deeper sense of satisfaction and growth. The more you share, the more you grow, learning something new with each experience.
As with anything, start small. All you have to do is share with someone besides yourself. Start with friends, or family. Gradually acclimate yourself to this practice, and it will become easier and more life-giving.
What are you capable of if you let your creative ambition run free out into the world? What is possible? I can’t wait for you to find that out for yourself.
