The simple answer is I’m dedicated to learning. As a 25-year-old from Nashville, I’m willing to listen, learn and apply the techniques from this incredible CL event to launching my own start-up with my best friend. It’s become overwhelmingly clear that I was not cut out to work for anyone other than myself. And I know the next 2 days will prepare and inspire to me to do great work. P.S. Last time I visited California, I only got to see SoCal and would love my first trip to San Fran to possibly be the most life-changing event in my young life thus far.
I have made a very solid career out of the ability to make money for other people. It’s what I’m good at, and what I’ve been taught to do. Day in, and day out, I get a small percentage of the not-so-small fortunes I’ve made for others. Never enough to get ahead, but always just enough so that I don’t quit. That’s not a way to live your life.
On the other hand, because of my ability to generate money for others – I’ve had the opportunity to work many positions, in many different fields: I’ve been everything from a bartender to a Flagship Retail Manager. I’ve been an Operations Director for a multi-national company, and I’ve beat the streets as a Vegas club promoter. I’ve sold cell phones (and at one point, frozen steaks) door to door out of the back of a car. I’ve even been the Vice President of a personal development company. In short – I’ve acquired such a dynamic and ranging skill-set that I think the ONLY logical step is to start making money for myself, instead of everyone else.
But, (sigh) that’s where trouble comes into paradise. I’m currently working as Director of Marketing and Brand Development for a major Las Vegas nightclub, which takes up about 25 hours a day. A chance to spend 48 hours with some of the world’s best minds–for me–isn’t about just getting out of the rat race and making more money. It’s the chance to get ideas out into the world. To create something that will outlive the people that start it. It’s a chance to change the lives of people, or the change the way the world works: It’s the chance to help not only myself, but others, turn their dreams into reality.
Judging by the amount of replies so far, I’ve got a roughly 1/300 chance of changing the world. That’s not something you get to say everyday. Here’s to longshots!
