Notes from Brazil: Hanging 60 feet off the deck

When you’re hanging off the mast of a sailboat 60 feet above the Atlantic Ocean, there is a tendency to ask the question, “Am I supposed to be here?” But it’s good to be asking that question of yourself, wherever you might be. Mission Critical Gear [plus chasejarvis TECH video]

If you’ve been paying attention to my latest photo adventure play-by-play here online, then it needs little introduction. The short version is that I’ve been aboard the Pangaea sailing in the South China Sea (in typhoon season....) with renowned explorer Mike Horn. Being plucked from my daily life, the mayhem of a modern age, and then dropped into a... read more ›

We’ve got to get a hook in that sail and pull it down. We’re surfing down the face of waves, only narrowly keeping the boat pointed in the right direction so we don’t blow over in the nearly 4 meter breaking seas. Frankly speaking, getting to... read more ›

Play-by-Play Photography Adventure for Panerai from China

Whoa. Pinch myself. I'm today en route to China on an epic assignment for the luxury watch brand Panerai, sailing this here 105 foot sailboat through the South China Sea from Shanghai to Hong Kong, and across to Taiwan in a mere 8 days. And I was just recently given this cool news: I can share with you the adventures of this campaign along the way. Assuming I can get satellite uploads from the middle... read more ›
