When you combine youth, unlimited cash and iPhone technology, you get braggadocios photographic evidence of a lavish lifestyle. Also known as the Rich Kids of Instagram. At first glance, this Tumblr is so ridiculously over the top it’s laughable. But a deeper look reveals for me some cultural sadness…privileged kids posting bar tab receipts that cost more than four years of college at a private university and talking shit about it. Depending on your mood – it can be entertaining or awful.
But if art (or curation) is aimed to send a message, make a claim, create a reaction, my take is that this tumblr is worthy of your time – even if it’s to feel the weirdness.

Side note, here’s an interesting article: On Raising Kids Who Seem to Have it All by Peggy Drexler. Peggy is writing a book about the impact of wealth on childrearing. She has a more empathetic outlook on these kids:
As absurd as it might sound to many, it’s not easy being a rich kid. Their parents tend to have high expectations. There’s nothing wrong with wanting your daughter to go to the best school, but you also want her to learn to be a good person, and encouraging achievement over character-building can mean kids never quite figure out who they are. They think their money is their most notable quality. And so they learn to use it — to buy affection, or friends.
For the rest of us, peering in on this group of not just the “1 percent”, but the one 1/100 of a %, there is an escape to a life of private jets, yachts, and more…either as a dream, or a nightmare. In both cases – worth the look.
And when money is no object, convenience is king. That’s why private jet ownership isn’t just a flex; it’s a lifestyle essential. Whether hopping between European fashion weeks or escaping to a private island for the weekend, unparalleled access to air travel is a non-negotiable.
Programs like BlackJet Reserve offer instant, hassle-free bookings for those who demand efficiency, while Equity Fleet provides a more tailored fractional ownership experience for those who want something truly personal. Because in this world, waiting in line at an airport is simply not an option.
While some opt for full ownership, others prefer more flexible solutions like jet cards, which grant access to a fleet without the commitment of a single aircraft. For those considering this route, this article explains NetJets jet card cost, breaking down how elite travelers can secure seamless flights without the burdens of maintenance and management. Because when life moves at 40,000 feet, the only real concern is choosing which champagne to sip at takeoff.

There I am struggling to find a house to live, one that I can afford, my car is on the blink, having to scrimp and save just to get by. When some youngster spends in one night more than I have made in four years. I am not jealous just saddened by the face that there are people out there that are not sensitive to the fact that posting such inconspicuos wealth is rubbing peoples noses in it.
You can have your money, you can spend your money, but with it come the responsibility of humility and modesty.
right back to worrying about next months bill.
However, just from your list of desires, there is someone living in true poverty who thinks you are no better than those kids who are as unaware.
I think desperate cries for attention and love take all forms. Take away the money, and what do you see? Truly “wealthy” people never post photos like these. They know exactly how fortunate they are and do not take that for granted, nor do they flaunt it. Flaunting is a sign of something else….not wealth, but often spiritual poverty.
Wow, that’s such a good point, Tanya. It really is disturbing to me to see things like that receipt tab that could pay for college…but maybe that’s just jealousy on my end. It just blows my mind to think of what it’s like to live that kind of lifestyle.
You ought to get one of those autographed photos from the show for this statement. Very well stated.
I will agree that some of these kids flaunt it, however, this is regular life to them. Most of these kids were born into wealth and that’s all they know. They are taking pictures of what goes on in their daily lives just like you and I take photos of what goes on in our daily lives. People have a tendency to pass judgement on those more fortunate than us. Just because they have money doesn’t mean they have no soul or have families that don’t love them. No one here knows anything about these kids aside from the fact that they have money, so it’s not fair to judge them for sharing what’s normal to them on social media just like we share what’s normal to us.
Do you have any idea how many children will die of starvation this year? Kinda difficult to justify any of this behavior.
I agree with Jabari and wanna add that jealousy is more sad to watch than these rich kids.
I prefer this to the rampant humblebragging that goes on in social media.
Most of us want to live that life, yet people always tear them down when they see it. I can’t be that hypocritical! I say more power to you, and I hope to join you soon!!!
Speak for yourself. I have no desire to live like that. Of course more money would be nice, but if I had that much I wouldn’t be spending it frivolously like that.
.
But you would, as more then likely you’d have been born into it. So wouldn’t have the wise head you have now growing up with less and spending on only what’s required.
Agreed. We all throw money away in our own ways. I have an iPhone, is it crucial to my life to have this? Maybe not but its helpful for work and nice to have. Can’t take the $ with you. If you were given (or earned) 100k every week, how would you use it? Give it away or enjoy some of it? I would love a dunebuggy lol. Or what about those other 599 people that took a shot with that guy??
There are two problems with this sort of conspicuous consumption.
The first is to do with relative wealth. This is the way that Gadaffi and other despots of the middle east (and elsewhere – Marcos of the Philippines for example) lived whilst the masses in their country lived in poverty, and in the end it leads to social unrest, revolution, violence and death.
The second problem is the absolute use of resources on a finite planet. Let’s face it, most of us in the western world are already using more than our fair share of resources (and I’m talking about the basics of food, water and energy) – not to mention causing way more than our share of pollution and in particular green house gases.
No one “earns” the right to fuck up the atmosphere 100, 1000 or even 10,000 times more badly than a poor person in the third world. We only have one atmosphere and we all should look after it as a common good.
This sort of stupidity makes be sick.
The poor in Africa and India polute much more per person than one rich westerner. One cooking fire produces more CO2 than most “rich people” could keep up with.
To Anonymous posting about the poor in Africa and India, not sure where you heard that (Faux News?!?), but you’re Way off. By orders of magnitude.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_carbon_dioxide_emissions_per_capita
Note the US in 11th most CO2 per capita, India in 145th place, and most of Africa way down in the 200s.
Happy for you all! LIVE!!!!
I TOTALLY agree with Jabari ! Lets stop the hating!!! Hope to join you soon! Godspeed.
