Which Photo Is Better: A or B ?

chase jarvis photo brent amaker

Remember when I did the original chasejarvisLIVE photo shoot way back in winter? If you recall, I was shooting the album cover image for alt/punk country band Brent Amaker and the Rodeo. We also did post production and editing on the images LIVE as well a few weeks after the shoot. Well now it’s time to print these suckers on a limited edition run of vinyl and there is somewhat of a debate on which image is better.

Simply put, and with no further explanation, I thought I’d ask for your thoughts. So which is better, A or B?

Vote in the comments. Also love to know ‘why’ if you care to explain. 500 px wide images after the jump…

[ also, reminder that if you like music and you like chasejarvisLIVE, I’m hosting rising hip hip star RA Scion (of Common Market and Victor Shade) TODAY in 90 minutes at 10:30 pacific/1:30 eastern (GMT – 8). Interview with RA and Village Voice/Time Out/Stranger cultural critic Charles Mudede, plus RA performs LIVE at the end of the show. Hope to see you http://www.chasejarvis.com/live today….]

What? Neither! This is a joke or test or something right? Sorry, if it’s not, but I’m just being honest. I don’t know who your target audience is, but as a woman I don’t find the images appealing or sexy at all. A I think is just ridiculous and in B the woman in the foreground is too prominent and distracting.

I kind of agree with Tania re: the women on this one… passed out? drugged? A little strange. As far as album covers go, I would still vote for A. If it’s about the band, A has a stronger display of the key players. If it were for an advertisement or something, B has the best composition.

I like B best. A cut the image in half with the model horizontal. It breaks the composition up and you kind of search around and the foreground is not interesting.

B with the modeling framing the side draws the eye in and the pose is strong and “rock and roll” if you will.

    Nice work!

I like A better. The women in image B is so predominate that it’s difficult to look past her.

B is the stronger image for the intended usage.

Although the foreground lady figure in B is actually a larger element than in A, it is not as distracting. The lighting in B effectively de-emphasizes the standing lady while leading your eye through the -story?- taking place behind her.

In the A image, the focal point jumps the the woman’s rather, um, “perky” torso. Perhaps a little more dodge & burn might even make this the better photo, but as is, I think its clearly B.
