I should be selected because I see the world differently than most people. I want to change it but, unfortunately, I do not have the funds to do so. I see a broken education system, and an even worse work system. Some people never even realize they are zombies, and other people realize it but do not know how to get out of the loop. I want to help these people achieve a life worth living. Help make the world a better place and make peoples’ dreams come true. I do not give myself credit for much, but I do know that I am a very quick learner. I believe if I was in the company of some of the greatest minds of our generation I could learn to make enough money to not just achieve the life I dream of, but also help others achieve this as well. This is a beautiful world and more people should have the opportunity to see it.
I do not want money for more things. That never leads to happiness. I want money so that I can have the freedom to finally be able to work on things that may also help others.
I wish I had found this link a little sooner, so I would have more time to think about it but, hopefully, Parkinson’s Law will prove true once again.
Hello. I am writing to persuade you to chose me to join you for the creative entrepreneurs’ workshop. I myself am not a compelling person — I only recently bought a camera, a Sigma Dp1x, I’m traveling to southeastern Asia in three weeks, planning to graduate college in December, moving to Houston to live with my girlfriend, and start-up my as-of-yet unstarted start-up while I teach at a community college. “So what?” you are probably asking;”Why should this somewhat lucky, somewhat under-achieving bastard come hang with me this weekend?” Exactly. It’s not me who should. It is actually my close friend Joe, the one responsible for recommending my first not-so-crappy camera mentioned above. Joe has had some hard luck since I met him in 2007. He was injured during training in the military and has taken a disability leave. Unfortunately the bureaucracy has been slow to non-existent in paying his benefits. Only recently has he gotten back on his feet — with the help of his family and some boot-strapping photography and a government that has finally come-through. He is a photgraphy enthusiast — he even takes the bloody thing down to 6th Street when I visit him in Austin. Can you imagine? Joe needs a boost to know how to make his talent and passion work for him. Because of disability he has had trouble gaining regular employment and relies on his own talents. He needs a boost — and so do I! I have proposed we start a a blog and video blog about topics of concern in Texas. Joe is currently helping his family travel to Boston for a wedding on Sunday — I know he’ll have his bags packed and be able to catch a flight. I am in DFW, Texas, and if you don’t see fit to choose me, please choose Joe! Thanks in advance!
I would love to come to this event and bring my boss who is my mentor. She has impacted my life greatly in the same way that everything I have learned from Tim Ferris has.
Thanks for the consideration!
Melissa
I wasn’t sure where to start and since I only have ten minutes to write this up, I’ll just speak from the heart. My parents told me one day, you’ll own a company, not work for one. Interesting to hear since my dad was an employee of the local power company and my mom was a stay at home mom. Perhaps they felt this way as I did everything as a child, the lemonade stand, sold girl scout cookies door to door and started my own magazine that I have drew and sold to the neighbors. I bought items at the local garages sales and resold them at the flea markets for a profit on the weekend. My parents made me do all of the negotiating. I remember going back and forth with a guy about the price at age nine. He just looked at my dad and chuckled and said one day, she’s going to run this country.
I didn’t go to college and accepted a job at 18 at a company as a receptionist. I left for another position less than a year later. I ended up moving my way up the company after three years and worked as an Account Executive. I was good at it, motivated by money and success. I then left and went to work for a new firm, only to be fired a couple of months later, the day before Thanksgiving. No paycheck, no healthcare, not a fun place to be. Why was I allowing someone else to decide my destiny. I knew better than that.
Instead of taking another job at 22, I started my own Employment Agency. My husband urged me too and for that I’ll ways be Thankful. It was a success, then 9/11 happened and no one was hiring. However, everyone was buying houses, so I pulled a license as a mortgage broker and started a mortgage company. I’ve always been good at math, so why not. We then purchased our first house. My husband was in a job doing fire alarm installations, which he didn’t love. However, he went to college for it and afterall, they teach you to do what you went to school for – doing something else would be scary.
He talked about quitting a lot and we wondered how we could do that. I looked at our bills and said if we only had $6000 in the bank, you could quit. We decided to save. The following week I was at our bank and applied for an overdraft line of credit. It was approved – the amount $6000. I was amazed, it was like fate. I called my husband up at work and told him to quit his job. He did that day and has not ever regretted that decision. We ran the mortgage company together until 2008, when we lost it all and had to file bankruptcy. They said every successful Entrepreneur goes through it once and if you can rebuild, then you deserve it.
We went back to what we knew – finding people jobs. However, over the years that market has changed and people are not hiring like they were. Companies no longer come to me wanting to pay a large fee for a candidate. Therefore, we created a new business of what we do best. Helping candidates find jobs instead. We design resumes and coach people on interviewing and where to look for jobs. So far so good – we are growing and people are happy. It’s nice to have a business that we feel helps people. It’s a good feeling knowing we’ve made a difference in someone else’s life.
This is an amazing opportunity that you have offered. It would be a dream come true for both of us on this long journey we started in 2000. Plus, we are a lot of fun to have a beer with.
Sorry, ran out of time to proof read, so forgive the spelling errors. I think you’ll still be able to know what I was saying.
Because I deserve it! Sorry, couldn’t resist. No sad story, life is good, have my own small business, always looking for opportunities to learn or to move up to the next economic level. Hope to hear from you soon.
