Banksy Vs. Bristol Museum: New “Secret” Exhibit Takes Over

One of my favorites, the legendary street artist, Banksy, has "secretly" taken over the city museum in his hometown of Bristol. In a rare statement, Bansky said: "The people in Bristol have always been very good to me - I decided the best way to show my appreciation was by putting a bunch of old toilets and some live chicken nuggets in their museum...This is the first show I’ve ever done where taxpayers’ money... read more ›

Someone’s Got to Be First

In any discipline, it's tough to be first. The first guy to make a battery powered car, the first first gal to wear combat boots with a babydoll dress, or the first guy to eat 50 hotdogs in 10 minutes. People may laugh at you. They might even point and laugh. In the world of creativity, it's especially tough. Not physically hard, but emotionally hard; hard to have the cajones to lay it out... read more ›

NYPD Tells NYPD That Photography Is (Still) Legal

In light of some recent harassing of photographers on the streets and subways of NYC, the New York City Police Department issued an internal memo reminding themselves that photography on the streets is (still) legal. "Members of the service are reminded that photography and the videotaping of public places, buildings and structures are common activities within New York City. Given the City's prominence as a tourist destination, practically all such photography will have no connection... read more ›

Dubai Parkour Project: A Collaborative Student Video

What kinda magic can 22 photographers from 16 countries do in 12 hours in Dubai? Well if they can round up 6 traceurs, 1 beautiful woman, 1 Mountain Dew, and a Porsche Cayenne, they can create something pretty darn cool.Enter the collaborative Dubai Parkour Project. Here's how it went down: we all gathered as a part of Gulf Photo Plus, an annual photo festivus in Dubai UAE of more than 1000 photographers from around the... read more ›

It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want To Be

The title of this post is ripped directly from the title of a short must-read book, written by Saatchi & Saatchi Creative Director legend, Paul Arden. Here's three pieces of advice from this book:1. Do not seek praise, seek criticism. "It is quite easy to get approval if we ask enough people, or those who are likely to to say what we want to hear. The likelihood is that they will say nice things rather than... read more ›

Film Hurts, In A Good Way. Introducing Doug Menuez 2.0

“Mulling it over, I couldn’t articulate it fully but definitely, I knew I had become lazy, really lazy. A spectacular sloth by the standards of shooting film. Film is hard. Film is a stone cold unforgiving killing bastard. Film is once in a lifetime, no excuses. F8 and really, really be there: ready, steady, in focus, correct exposure, and pressing the shutter in synch with life.”Doug Menuez said that, just this morning. And if you... read more ›

Laura’s Story

Thanks to all of you wrote in after seeing Laura’s Story when I announced the refreshed www.chasejarvis.com last week (check it). This video is sorta buried in my new Portfolios section, but many of you seemed to unearth it and find intrigue in it too, so I’m following your lead/request to chuck it out here on the blog to facilitate some sharing and/or discussion. What is it? It’s a short video piece about my friend... read more ›

Interview Mania.

I wanted to share with you three interviews I've recently given... This stuff normally lives on the press page where it can be a touch more shameless, but I've been buried all week and was looking for some low hanging fruit. Plus, I wanted to call these out because you should consider visiting the sites of each of these interviewers. They're all utter gentlemen who are putting out lots of great content for the photography... read more ›

Zack Arias Nails It: Transform

Zack Arias, you nailed it man. Way to lay it out there. From all of us creatives who have sparked, flailed, and gotten back up, sparked, flailed again, dusted ourselves off, and flailed yet again: thank you. Wonderful piece.(thx for the tip, Sarah.)--

surviving your own photography career: Doug Menuez

Not too long ago I had a creative/personal breakthrough with my work. In short, it amounted to my snapping into clarity about what I wanted from my creativity, my profession, and ultimately, my life. A path to this subsequently emerged, and I've revealed the thrust of these epiphanies--without eloquence--on this blog over time.In a wave or recent email and Facebook inquiries on this sort of stuff, I was tempted put together a summary post on... read more ›
