Looking for a weekend project for your photo studio? Alrighty then. Thoroughly amused at the approach taken here in this vid by folks at EyeHandy, having mostly naked model Ashley showing us how to make a cyc wall. Funny though, if you can get past the scantily clad builder using power tools (not sure why you'd want to do that...but....), the truth is that the actual info here on how to build a... read more ›

Captured this on the streets of NYC during Dasein artist in residency last May. [BTW, I'll be showing a lot of new work in this manner over the coming weeks and months. Voicing your opinions on this or any image in the future is welcomed. Thanks.] Continue reading

I learned over time that as photographers, filmmakers and independent artists, we're also entrepreneurs running our own small businesses. Since I'm not all that business minded I've had learn as much as I can while surrounding myself with smart biz-oriented people who can help. Enter stage left Mara, our on-staff accountant. Going forward, I've got a goal that she will be able to shed a lot of light on the $$ and business side of... read more ›

Seems that a new guerrilla campaign by Olympus in Australia is talking shit about the "rubbish" photos from your camera phone. "If you're camera also sends text messages, that will explain why your photos are rubbish." Plaques in select Aussie cities bearing the above slogan have been pasted to the street and other urban environs, with the url GetARealCamera.com linking to Olympus. Personally, the message bugs... read more ›

Is it bigger than a breadbox? No. It’s my new Olympus Pen E-P2 camera kit, and it’s awesome. As the guy who manages the inventory of equipment here at Chase Jarvis Inc., it’s fair to say that I know a thing or two about what it takes to pull off a photo shoot. Every time we roll down the street or fly around the world, I pack and move cases of gear. No... read more ›

Here in the USA today we're celebrating Independence Day. I'm up at the cabin chilling out, but wanted to invite you to join in, wherever you're from. Above is a video of how pure camera nerds party on the 4th. Here's what the NYC cops do on the 4th. And finally, for you DIY types, here's how to photograph YOUR very own 4th of July fireworks. Catch you back in the studio tomorrow.... read more ›

After months of detention in a Beijing prison the Chinese government today released famed Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei on bail. Ai, arguably China's most well known artist, was taken into custody in April amid a crackdown on dissidents and activists across China. This is breaking news for the art world but it's also great news to my ears personally. I've been moved by his work and intelligent dissent for quite some time, and became... read more ›

As a matter of opinion, it's time to get some cojones. Or whatever clever slang you've cooked up for the female equivalent, or whatever will help you understand the following point. Sure there's plenty of good things to honor about the past of our photography industry. A lot of the trails have been intelligently blazed by those before us, a lot of ditches have been dug. But...ahem...generally speaking status quo in photography doesn't know which... read more ›
