SHORT VERSION: Are you on SnapChat? If so add me @chasejarvis. We’ll have a tighter relationship and I’ll add value I promise.
Are you NOT on SnapChat but curious? Read on…

LONGER BUT STILL SHORT-ISH VERSION

Are you on snapchat? If so, add me. If not, I truly truly believe in my heart of hearts this is something you should consider IF you love telling/consuming stories or want more access to me/my life and the lives of your friends.

Most important thing to get out of this early on is….this thing is NOT just for kids. It’s lightweight sharing that you can do in 10 seconds or less. I’ve been using the platform for a month or so now and in this episode of cjRAW I share

// what it is…
// why I like it, and….
// how to get started (a VERY basic primer to get you moving in the right direction…)

What

Snapchat allows you to chat, take photo, or video, make a little art piece – and share it with one person, multiple people, or add to your story which shares it to all your followers. It’s a quick, lightweight storytelling mechanism that connects you directly your community in a creative, fun, and immediate way.

Why

Don’t get me wrong. YouTube & Facebook still have their place for my videos. My ongoing videos on youtube + facebook + blog posts will continue until the end of time. But those videos require heavier lifting for shooting+editing and generally have a specific message. I like those options a lot. But they’re different from this….

Snapchat is the best way for you to ride with me (or other friends you follow) throughout the day. I can do it in the elevator, in an uber, or even on my bike commute to work. Behind-the-scenes on photo/film shoots? Of course. Confessionals? Those too. And of course a dose of inspiration talk. On top of photos + videos about all these things, I (for better or worse) get to be drawing, use filters, and adding music with these photos. All this in the name of doing my best to add value to those that follow, AND have in some cases a daily 1:1 relationship with you and others (yes – I send snaps back to you when you send me a snap). It’s a killer access channel between you and me all in the name of value, creativity and playfulness.

What’s my FAVORITE aspect of Snapchat you ask? That’s easy. I *LOVE* the ability to connect with you directly. I try to watch all snaps sent to me, and I’m trying my best to respond to each one (tough when there’s hundreds coming at me every day – but I dedicate real time to this every day….). Few things inspire me more than to hear from and connect with you throughout the day.

How

There are TONS of tutorials online regarding how to use Snapchat so it’s not worth re-iterating it here, but certainly if you need some basic steps, a quick search on the web will get you what you need.

Here’s one thought I wanted to expand on… Discovering people to follow is not easy. You either need to know the person’s username, have their email or phone number, or their snapcode. A few ways you can find people and/or get people to follow you:

  • Add you snapcode or username to your other social profiles such as facebook or twitter
  • There’s also a new app in iTunes called ghostcodes it’s a community-based directory that will help you find some new & interesting people. Check it out, add yourself, and if you like my stuff, please vote me up! 😀

Finally — again — you can find me on snapchat by going to this page on mobile, using the snapcode below, or adding me by my username chasejarvis.

Give it a whirl. If you do, send me a message and let me know what you think of it. See you on the snaps.
