150 of YOUR Favorite Blogs, and My NEW Favorite 9

Well, if you're a regular here, you'll know why I haven't posted in more than a week - I've been buried in the great links you've sent over. Wow am I grateful for everyone's time submitting their favorites. My plan was always to organize 'em, but I had no idea there would a)be so many and b)of such a high quality... So that said, I did chuck 'em into three categories: photography, design, and pop... read more ›

My New Favorite Blog

I'm sure you're familiar with this phenomena: every once in a while you'll scroll through your iPod with its 10, 20, 80, 160 gigs of music or whatever, and you won't find anything that sparks you at that moment. 10,000 songs and nothing jumps out at you. Certainly there's some great stuff in there, but every so often, we all need a wakeup call - something bold and new. Well, that's me right now, only... read more ›

Whether you're a lover of fine art photography, a collector, an investor, or -wtf- if you have even a single aesthetic-minded bone in your body, please join me for a moment in revering the new work of Camille Seaman (Shinnecock Tribe b.1969). Mark my words, she and her work will be a fixture on the photography landscape for many years to come. A majority of first solo shows happen at galleries that are local to... read more ›

Photoshelter Redux

Old News: I delivered they keynote talk at the Photoshelter Town Hall event in NYC a few weeks ago. The swell folks over at Photoshelter posted the full 55-minute yap session (grab some popcorn and a beer or 3...) some time ago. Redux: Apparently, there have been a number of reported hiccups with the servers/host being slow or delivering incomplete downloads (although I should go on record saying that I think Brightcove is generally great).... read more ›

Information R/evolution

Our in-house tech wizard and all around genius utility player, Dartanyon, unearthed this last week and it's been in my mental queue since then to share. Kansas State guru Michael Wesch blesses us with another smart vid on the changes in -and power of- information.Update: just popped over to BoingBoing - they just posted it there this morning too, but they wisely added this link as well to Michael Wesch's earlier short about Web... read more ›

Summary: $1.32 Million, Used Shoes, Topless Babes, Apple + HP, and Superman

Okay. Let's pretend that each of the following speedlinks corresponds to a day of the work week. Think stereotypical work days here. Hang with me on this... Monday. Mondays can catch you off guard. Sometimes with bad news, but other times with good news. This feels like a Monday link: Did you hear? Seattle-based photographer Lloyd Shugart wins 1.32 million dollars in the first noted victory for photography under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Lesson... read more ›

To Go Or Not To Go?

There's a message in here somewhere, so please indulge me for 2 minutes. It's been a very busy fourteen days.On September 12th I finished a long term project in Seattle. That same day I rushed off to a couple meetings and the Photoshelter speaking gig in NYC. I returned to Seattle to sit at my desk in our new studio for 48 hours to get something done, then hopped on a plane again for back... read more ›

Photoshelter NYC Followup

Thanks to everyone (close to 600 peeps!) who attended the Photoshelter Town Hall event Friday at the Filmore East in NYC. Good times and lots of discussion on which to ruminate. I really enjoyed meeting so many people from this community - outta site. Other highlights were: the audience participation, the kindness of the Photoshelter folks, the green room where I'm sure LOTS of historic stuff had happened (if those walls could talk), typo in... read more ›
