Which Photo is Better: A or B?

Runner.jpg

I was just recently commissioned for a campaign and shot about 1000 images to capture final image for this well known sports company. In the end, it came down to the two images above. As is usually the case, the final image is tough to choose, with lots of factors under consideration, lots of stakeholders picking their favorite. There was much debate.

I’ve posted stuff like this before and was really excited by the resulting discussion, so I figured I’d throw it out there again… WHICH IS BETTER, A or B?

Vote in the comments. Love to know ‘why’ if you care to explain your thoughts. 600 px wide versions of each image after the jump…hit [‘continue reading’ below]. After you all weigh in, I’ll tell you which one was used and why.

Depends on what is it used for. B has a lot of “white space” for text. If I had my druthers I’d take the girl from A (better smile) and the sun flare from B.

agreed that flare is getting over-used and not used so that it is subtle. i would say A because it has just enough of a flare and her face is more visible (also her expression is better in A)

    A, absolutely.

The flare in B is just too distracting. In A it is artistic, stylistic… in B it is a punch in the face.

I’d say A. Too much flare in B, the facial expression isn’t quite there, and the positioning of her right leg is a bit odd, her foot looks like it’s a bit twisted. Minor details aside from the glaringly obvious flare, but for me the facial expression is the real killer on B; she doesn’t seem to be enjoying her jog.

    B. It looks more like an artistic sports ad…also that sunburst in the background makes it look like she’s running/flying at lightening speed w/those tennis shoes on. 🙂
