Alrighty. Regardless of the fact that this A or B series (here, here, and here) has been really interesting for us, helpful, and popular with you (the last such post received over 1000 comments in 24 hours)…
This time it is of even greater interest for us. You see, we’re doing some image editing around here and we’ve stumbled into a little internal debate about which one of these two images is actually better, A or B. [You might remember these shots from the Nikon D7000 campaign…]
Hearing from you will help really help us. No qualifiers, don’t worry about our objectives, or the “assignment”. We want to know which one of these shots you like better. And please tell us in the comments below, not via twitter. Raw preference. Period. If you can add some “why”, that would be nice too. Full 600 pixel wide images after the jump. Hit ‘continue reading’ below [and btw, I’ve got a $1 gentlemen’s bet riding with Erik about which one will win, so don’t let me down!]…
After you all weigh in, I’ll tell you which one I like, which one I thought you’d like, and why.

So which photo is better? A or B?

B, because it has more of a story and movement. A has more dynamic lighting, but it’s too static. The girl feels like an accessory in the photo. With B, you get a sense of moment, a hint of dialogue about what’s going on. There’s a little more tension with the addition of people in the background and the fact she’s walking away from them. B sucks me in longer because I want to know the rest of the story.
A
Because of the mood and the windmills.
I prefer B since I don’t like the light on A’s legs (way too bright)
I find it really interesting the concept of selecting what image one preferrs WITHOUT A CONTEXT!!!.. Personally give me 100 images and i’ll prob find 100 images with things I like about them.. but to select the BEST i need to know more information.
I think it kinda outlines the world of photography at the moment, where a story and an image arent related. People make snap judgements these days, within a split second our decisions are made for us based on their perspective without considering other angles to truly achieve the purpose of their work.
Sooooo Chase.. can you give us a little insight into what you are using this image for? whose the client? What is the purpose of the shoot? etc..
Peace
Jason
My wife and I like “A” for the dramatic effect, we are opposite of most and like the windmills and the van being visible, but not the a focal point. Not stoked on her body position I wish it was more like B, but none the less still going with A
