Hey photo friends. Erik here with a quick recommendation for an inexpensive photo editing solution. I’ve been playing around with the CameraBag 2desktop software for the last couple months and I’m blown away at the capabilities packed into this affordable editing tool. The weather drama we were expecting passed us by, unaffected, and we kept the sun in the sky the entirely of the two days. Click through the tabs above to check a bunch more behind-the-scenes images shot mostly by the... read more ›

Day 4 here, coming at you--almost live--from Aspen/Snowmass. We've had an epic previous 3 days...and today the weather turned milky on us. Just white everywhere, with no snow...so we took the morning off which allowed me to wrangle a bunch of behind-the-scenes photos for your viewing pleasure. 30-something photos here from our iPhones, point and shoots, micro 4/3's etc. Big thanks to Andrew, Erik, and Jerard mostly for helping me compile some of these. Last week when I posted the broadcast commercial for REI that I recently directed, I promised a behind-the-scenes vid. So here 'tis -- the focus here on the epic aerial shots we nailed using a remote-operated RC helicopter flying an onboard camera, curtesy of our friends at FreeFly Cinema. Hope you dig it. Also--since a lot of y'all have been asking via social channels--I figured I'd give a second-by-second, shot-by-shot breakdown of the... read more ›

Hey friends. Erik the video guy here. We’ve had a bunch of YOUR questions come in about what gear/process/technique we used to make the Dasein docu-short we posted a couple days ago so I thought I’d chime in with a quick gear- and technique-specific follow up on how this film was made. First, Chase was the director on the project but wanted to remain focused simply on the overall look and feel. Plus, since he... read more ›

Is it just me, or is there something dreadfully bizzare just off with this whole thingie? The Gothamist thinks so. So seriously, am I off my rocker being sort of suspended in disbelief? Here's the behind the scenes video from Elle.com, which was even weirder...

Living at the Ace Hotel New York for 5 weeks has the benefit of getting to connect with the amazing cross section of people & culture. Enter: Reggie Watts. I've got a ton of respect for Reggie. He's a genius musician in a comedian's skin, who moved from Seattle to NYC a short while ago as his career exploded. The LA Times called him, "Deliciously strange." New York Magazine called him, "Spectacularly original."... read more ›

[note: this is behind the scenes - the finished vid is below...] Ever since I was a kid I've envisioned shooting videos the old way...the "practical" way where the moves and gimmicks, the set changes and the moving walls happen in camera, in real time, and real space, as opposed to the numerous luxuries we have nowadays in post production. In short, the opportunity to live out that vision from when I was a kid... read more ›

[Alrighty gear heads. Erik here with a continuation of the series of posts where I elaborate on the gear that I consider essential for my video job here at CJinc. I previously discussed how the Zaucto Z-Finder helps me guarantee the visual quality of my video, and in this post I'll explain how the Rode Stereo Video Mic ensures that my BTS footage will have respectable sound too. Perhaps more importantly though, how it allows... read more ›
