Strobist Lighting Seminar in Seattle

I typically don’t do public service announcements on this blog, but occasionally I feel compelled to do ping you about something news-y when it's relevant. The last one I posted was to remind you to change your clocks over for daylight saving time (I’m the guy who can blow that sort of thing...) This next PSA is about one hundred times more important than showing up for work on time the day after changing your... read more ›

Chase Jarvis RAW: New Zealand Spring

Crazy camera angles, helicopter logistics, truckloads of gear, 15,000 miles and a crew of more than 30 people... As the saying goes, it takes a village. Hopefully you’re familiar with my ongoing video series entitled Chase Jarvis RAW, where I attempt to highlight the underbelly of commercial photography and how much effort goes into creating the images you see in advertisements, magazines, brochures and online. In this latest video, Chase Jarvis RAW: New Zealand Spring,... read more ›

Design, Law, Technology, Vodka, and Art – Something For Everyone

The title of this post should really read: "Design, Law, Technology, Vodka, and Art - Something For Everyone [To Help Me Dig Out From The Past Two Weeks]", but I figured the whole "Dig Out..." part was a bit too much. The gist of the title I spared you, as you might imagine, is that the last couple weeks have been crazy. It's why I've just had the longest run (15 days, gasp!) in the... read more ›

Jarvis v. K2

My recent, official statement released to no media outlets, but only to the ASMP reads:"I am gratified by last week's ruling from the 9th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals. It is a welcome victory for the photographic community and creative artists everywhere. This sends a clear message about the importance of artists' rights and the value of our work. While the proceedings -- begun only as my last resort to gain compliance from K2 after... read more ›

ASMP Seattle Blogging Panel – Thursday, June 14th

Just a quick post from the road... (Exotic location? Not. See if you can find Roslyn, WA on a map... although it is the location where Twin Peaks was shot - see my earlier post on why/how David Lynch is a genius.) Anyhow, I'll be speaking on a panel hosted by the Seattle Chapter of ASMP this coming Thursday, June 14th at 6:00pm on--ironically--the topic of blogging. If you happen to be in Seattle and... read more ›

Chase Jarvis RAW: Ninjas

This behind-the-scenes video details of one of my recent photo shoots involving crazy stunt men, hot and scantily-clad stunt women, smoke machines, weapons, trampolines, and a dilapidated warehouse.Hopefully, you’re familiar with ChaseJarvis FRAMES, our concept of showing not just the hero shots, but EVERY image from a shoot sewn together into a short movie. If you found any merit in that, then you can think of this new concept as its kissing cousin. We’re... read more ›

Review of 2007 PDN Photo Annual Party

It's one thing that posting from the road is hard enough. It's entirely another thing that this entry might read dangerously like a gossip column (gasp!) if I'm not careful. Regardless, I've just woke and am remembering how much darn fun I had at the PDN party last night.I'm grateful to the many whose paths I crossed last night, readers, friends, other bloggers alike. Rarely are many of us in the same state let alone... read more ›

2007 PDN Magazine Photo Annual

If you care about photography and you haven't checked out the hot-off-the-press 2007 PDN Photo Annual, you really should. There's some nice stuff in there you'd expect from some return honorees (Andy Anderson, Tim Flach, Vincent Laforet etc) but some really interesting stuff from some new names (Christine Gatti - that's commitment!, many others). There look to be some really strong Photo Books this year too (powerful Chuck Close, Scott Peterman, Peter Steinhauer). And, while... read more ›

Get Your Limited Edition Hipster Tshirt Now

Coolest T-shirts ever! Okay that's a stretch, but we've got something sort of fun going on. If you haven't poked around here deep enough to see our limited edition promo T-shirts, now is your time. Inspired loosely by some random pictures I've taken, each shirt is just screened line art - and a couple shirts even sport some subtle glitter-y ink. We produced 4 shirts in editions of 100 each, and when each design is... read more ›

Chase Jarvis FRAMES: Hasselblad Masters

Here’s an interesting peek at the underbelly of professional photography--the gems and the warts, the outtakes, the volume, the repetition, light tests, blown angles, and the hero shots all wound together in one tight little ball. This is an uncut series of 2000 still photographs, stitched together and put to music, featuring every image I shot during a 5-day period for personal work, my portfolio, AND to promote the 2007 Hasselblad Masters (a gold star... read more ›
