I was in Paris last week. Part work, but mostly fun. Eating, drinking, being merry, and of course, snapping photos my iPhone–as I do everyday–with no end goal beyond staying creatively engaged.
I was just now kicking through photos from the trip and stumbled on a couple of snapshots I thought were interesting for various reasons. I’ve posted stuff like this before and was really excited by the resulting discussion, so I figured I’d throw it out there again… These are of course just snapshots, but even snapshots have merit. AND these photos are VERY different from one another…. So, simply put, I thought I’d ask for your thoughts, which is better, A or B? And why?

Which is better and why?
I prefer A. The lying man has a very strong ‘visual’ pull. It tells a story.
B also has some interesting aspect too. It feels more abstract. The car seems to be going into a dead end/wall and the big wheel gives me the impression of movement as if a big wheel was rolling in the city like in a dream.
B also reminds me of my vacations in Paris earlier this month (August). I might have walked by the very same sport. Chase, where you on the corner of Saint-Honoré and Saint-Roch when you snapped the picture? 🙂
Apples and Oranges this is. Each photo is great in their own right. Each one does things the other can’t. They are both great shots. “Which one is better” doesn’t really seem to suit these shots as a pair. If they were both competing to tell you the same story I could understand, but these little guys are both on their own agendas.
So I choose neither, or both (depends if i’m in a glass half empty or full mood today… haven’t decided).
For me; A jumps out and piques my interest for a variety of reasons. I started to articulate why I like A over B then realized that I like A and I have to try to find reasons to like B.
Photo A is much more interesting, it reminds me of the cover of Muse called Absolution.
A – it has people in it – I always prefer photos with people in them. Plus, you could write a book about image A – image B, not so much – it’s nice and all. but A surpasses it…
