How To Steal Ideas Like an Artist

You read the title and thought I was talking smack. But in fact, I'm trying to give advice. The history of the world is one of shared spaces, shared food, shared water, shared DNA, shared lives. The history of art is the same. It is a history of an evolution of ideas, of appropriation and application. Therefore, if you're looking for inspiration, look no further than 1. inside you; and then 2. to other art... read more ›

I’m Busy Working

Apologies that today's post is bit late, but that's cause I'm tied up...ahem..."working". Here's Scott finishing the morning work session. Might be spring where you're at, but it's the dead of winter here at Stevens Pass and that's just fine with me. Continue reading

Photographer JR. The Power of Photography.

I've watched this vid a half dozen times since it came out a while back. I never tire of it. If you missed it when it first dropped --OR, hell, even if you've seen it before--please saddle up here for 5 min and enjoy the unique power of photography. When I talk about "Social Art" (like here for example) this is, in part, what I'm getting at. A magnificent and stunning example here... read more ›

Chase Jarvis LIVE on Wed April 6 – Taking All Your Questions [+ a Special Guest]

Whenever I give a talk or host a show, my fav part is the Q&A. Rather than me guessing what I should share, you just ask away. Especially the hard questions that you can't learn in photography books: landing clients, overcoming failures, working with challenging clients, legal, gear, portfolio questions, whatever it might be. In this year's first #AskChase version of chasejarvisLIVE, I got thru about 40 of your questions in the 90 min show.... read more ›

Who Stole My Hair? [Happy April Fools’ Day]

Happy April Fools' Day. Here in the ol' USA, today is an unofficial holiday where gags, jokes and general tomfoolery are played on/between/amongst friends. In true fashion, there is plenty of said tomfoolery happening around our place. In a totally bizarre turn of events true fashion, it seems that some members of my crew have shown up to work today styled-up to look like one another. Here are a handful of mugshots. If... read more ›

Diary of a Shoot Followup — Ask Your Questions + Snapshots of Carnage

As a followup to my last 9 "Diary of a Shoot" posts where I scribbled the play by play as well as my thoughts each night in a blog post, I thought I'd wrap that up with two things. 1. I want you to be able to ask questions that I did not address in my posts. There were hundreds that I didn't get to. I'm... read more ›

Diary of a Shoot, Day 9 – That’s a Wrap!

Up at 4am. Walk out onto my deck in the cold dark air and look up. Stars. It's on. We're gonna get this. 5am call time rallies the cast and crew. We're wheels up at 6am. Convoy of 6 SUVs heading to meet the snowcat for a lift to the top of Telluride Resort with all our gear.... read more ›

Diary of a Shoot, Day 8 – Shut Down Again, Extend the Shoot

When I say shut down. I mean. Shut. Down. Another day of zero pictures, zero footage. We have a few crucial shots to get in the can before we can leave. I'm talking 'must have'...so we're not messing around anymore. It's do or die, but today it just wasn't happening. The beauty of shooting in a studio is that... read more ›

Diary of a Shoot, Day 6 — Doesn’t Get Much Better Than This

I've been doing this stuff for a good chunk of my life - the only career I've ever had. And so when I'm talking about the quality of a day--the light, the crew, the shots, the vibe--I've got a fair bit to compare it to. Thousands of days on set. That said, today ranks pretty high on my list of epic days.... read more ›

Daily Diary of a Shoot. Day 1 Complete.

My alarm goes off. It's 3:45 this morning. I snooze till 3:56. Now I'm up, but barely. No shower. Pull on dirty bluejeans. Tshirt. Brush teeth. Some quick math tells me that I’d just enjoyed a luxurious 3 hour and 15 minute night of sleep. Moving. Slowly. And then I remember more clearly. Ah yes..heading out of town again. Excited--but remembered that the cab to the airport is due here in 20 minutes. Finish packing... read more ›

The show's logo is displayed on the left side, with "THE CHASE JARVIS LIVE" in bold black text inside yellow rectangles, stacked vertically.
